Foley is the performance art of recreating and enhancing sounds recorded on set, synchronous to picture. In every day life, we make sound and noise whether we know it or other wise sub-conciously. Anything Audible can record every footstep, clothing movement, key jangle, hand pat, chair and cup movement, blood squish or most gore sounds if so required. Don't rely solely on Actor movement captured in your production sound. If your project is intended for international release your English production sound track will be removed. Foley is recorded so that when your project is dubbed in another language, all the movement sound effects are not missing. Also, if any scenes of your project have had the dialogue replaced for ADR lines, Foley has to be filled back in to replace any missing movement. These examples are from a video game that Anything Audible was commissioned to work on. Interestingly, we weren't provided with any visuals prior to designing most of the sound scapes. So we rolled our sleeves up, used our imagination and went to work on creating all the sounds for the game. Imagine a large room in a mansion with wooden floors. As you enter, the floor suddenly opens up and splits in two. Almost "steam punk" in nature, the mechanicals that enable the floor split are powered by cogs, chains, pistons and steam. As you enter another room you encounter a huge telescope that extends upwards to a glass canopy. The telescope starts to spin and you hear the rolling mechanism and in the same method as the floor, powered by the same mechanicals. Put on your headphones, close your eyes and enjoy...
